AH79  Whale Watching & The Blue Lagoon 1 Apr 2012 -
30 Sep 2012

Highlights:
  • Whale watching
  • The Blue Lagoon

Tour Description:

This is a nice combination of tours AH75 Whale Watching and AH29 The Blue Lagoon for those who want to do more in one day.

We will sail to the home of a unique variety of the Minke whales, Humpbacks, Harbour Porpoises and White-beaked Dolphins, which are all common sights in this tour. The local bird life is also diverse, including birds as the Puffin, Arctic tern, Gannet and many varieties of Gull. The entrance to the Whale Exhibition Centre is free of charge for Whale Watching passengers.

At 12:30 we offer a pick-up service at the harbour that takes you back to our office. Those wanting to enjoy a leisurely walk back to our office (10-15 minutes) are also welcome to do so. We ask you to be at our office at 12:50 at the latest.

At 13:00 we board the bus for the 50 minute ride to the Blue Lagoon where you can enjoy the qualities it has to offer! The Blue Lagoon is a unique geothermal spa situated in the youngest lava field in west Iceland. Once there you have many recreational options such as walking in the Blue Lagoon’s spectacular surroundings, bathing in the milky blue-green water, relaxing in a geothermal steam bath or releasing the stress from your shoulders under a Blue Lagoon waterfall.

Departures from the Blue Lagoon back to Reykjavík are at 15:00, 17:15 and 19:00. Transfer time to Reykjavík is about 50 minutes.

I didnt get to the see whales up close as I had expected - the only ones we saw were quite far away - so the tour was quite a let down for me. It was still nice to get to see the beautiful scenery and flocks of birds, though. The Blue Lagoon wasnt that much of a tour. I just got dropped off at the Lagoon and off I went to do my own thing, so there wasnt much to write about. The Blue Lagoon was definitely a must-see and try!

This trip was great. We got see whales a number of times although the dolphins dodged us. The precautions taken by the crew to provide life jackets and overall showed how much they cared for the tourists. The guide was excellent and shared a lot of info about these ocean species.

The staff were nice and informative. It was a great experience for sailing in Iceland. However, it was disappointing that the whale appeared for one second only and the speed and the repsonse of the ship we took was slower than the other companies.

Iceland Excursions:

Thank you for your comments and review of the Whale Watching tour. Unfortunately as with all things in nature a sighting of the whales can never be guaranteed. The tour vessel although large is responsive and quick in turning but as per environmental policy and rules to respect wildlife a careful manouvering of the vessels is necessary.

Whale watching and Blue Lagoon can't be missed if going to Iceland. Boat ride was great and the whales, dolphins and puffins were great to see. The lagoon was very relaxing.
