AH69  The Edge of Iceland - Látrabjarg bird cliffs 15 Jun 2015 -
31 Aug 2015

Highlights:
  • Town of Stykkishólmur
  • Cruise on Breidafjorudr Bay
  • The Látrabjarg Cliff
  • Bird Watching

Tour Description

We start the day bright and early and head north towards Stykkishólmur town located on Snaefellsnes peninsula. There we board the Ferry Baldur and enjoy a 3 hour cruise across Breiðafjörður Bay, better known for it´s numerous islands and flourishing bird life.

When we reach the other side of the bay we continue on to Látrabjarg, Europe‘s largest bird cliff, which stretches for 14 km and is up to 444m high. This remote area is the westernmost part of Europe  and a home to many different bird species such as puffins, northern gannets, guillemots and razorbills.

Here you will literally get the impression of being at the edge of Iceland while surrounded by thousands of birds! On the way back we will board Ferry and enjoy the landscape in a relaxing evening.

Great tour. It was my last chance to see the west fjords due to it being the end of the season since the other buses there had stopped running. The coastline and scenery were beautiful. I liked the ferry ride; it was something i had wanted to do anyway. It may be nice to make some different stops on the return trip.

A very long tour, but it's really worth it! The landscape is absolutely impressing. I was very happy about traveling with this small group (12 participants). Maybe it would be an idea to use the ferry for one way and take the road for the other to see more different parts of this beautiful country (and our guide told us, that it would not take more time to drive instead of going by ferry).

Easter in Iceland 2014
Easter in Iceland is both a religious holiday and a sign that winter is over. The latter usually proves spectacularly wrong, but as long as we get our chocolate Easter egg on Sunday morning, we're ok.
