Tour Description:

ATTENTION: Please note that there will be a change in departure time in 2012. This tour will depart Reykjavík at 08:00 and not at 09:00 as previously advertised.

The Reykjanes Peninsula tour offers an extreme variety of landscapes dotted with fissures, lava fields and geothermal activity. We depart from Reykjavík heading towards the community of Sandgerði, one of the country‘s major fishing points. The tour continues along the coast line through Miðnesheiði moor which rises up from the lowland. We will stop at the stone built church of Hvalneskirkja from the year 1887.

The journey proceeds through lava fields onwards to Sandvík where two of the earth‘s tectonic plate split.  At Sandvík you will get the opportunity to walk over a symbolic footbridge which crosses a fissure which  provides clear evidence of the rift between the European and the North American tectonic plates.

We head towards the coast for the lighthouse of Reykjanesviti, one of the oldest lighthouses in Iceland. Weather permitting you can  glimpse at the island of Eldey, which rises from ocean, and witnes the foamy waves beating up on the dark rocks. Close by is the country‘s largest mud pool, Gunnuhver, which will be our next stop. According to a legend a great ghost nicknamed Gunna caused great disturbance in the area until a priest set a trap for her and she fell into the 300°C hot spring. The area offers unique colours which will not disappoint the photographer.

The tour ends at the Blue Lagoon where you have four different options; a visit to the Blue Lagoon, transfer to Keflavík Airport, return back to Reykjavík or you could join the AH16 tour which will take you to Krýsuvík geothermal area and Kleifarvatn Lake before heading back to Reykjavík.

Transfers from the Blue Lagoon to Reykjavík are available at 12:00, 15:00, 7:15, 19:00 and 21:00

Transfers from the Blue Lagoon to Keflavík Airport are available at 12:00, 14:00 and 15:00

Thanks for the service from your company, it always helpful. One question is why we always need to change the electronic tickets to a real ticket? It troubled me a bit when I got the air express from airport, also it is not so environmental friendly. About the Peninsula tour, a bit disappointed is that the driver always introduce something discouraging your spirit, for example, for the mid atlantic ridge, he told us then even though you came here doesn't means that you are really visiting the fissure of two continental; for the blue lagoon: he told us that it's just waste water from the industry, he and his fellows always laughing that why you travelers came here for the waste water. Although I think so many know the water of blue lagoon is come from the power plant, but the scenery there still beautiful, no need to discourage tourist spirit like this. All in all, I satisfied with the service provided by your company (not restricted in this tour), just offer you some advice.

Thank you for your comments and review. The reason for checking in the electronic tickets is mostly to make sure passengers have arrived in case of flight delays as well as to check in for tours to make sure they were picked up from hotels on time. As for the guide during the tour of the Reykjanes Peninsula, his sense of humor may not have gone down well with you but we can assure you that this is not the ordinary view of most people in Iceland. We will inform the guide about your complaint in order that there will not be a misunderstanding of the importance of explaining to our guests the facts about the tectonic plates and the fact that they run through Iceland not only at one particular place but in several places from South West all the way up to the North East part of the country and indeed the place marked on the Reykjanes Peninsula is one of many such fissures. The Blue Lagoon is formed by excess hot water from the nearby power plant  and not at all waste water, this is absolutely clear. Apologies on behalf of our guide that he had this strange wording for the water concentrating at the Blue Lagoon. The water is even replenished every few hours.

I think there was a lot of driving for not that much to see, especially the 1st part of the excursion. We had to wait 1 hour and a half before actually stop and see a church. This tour should be shorter or we should have more stops. But it's a good way to make the most of your trip to the blue lagoon.

This tour is special for those interested in Iceland´s nature and the history of the volcanic activity along the Tectonic Plates. Several stops are made along the way as indicated in the description of the tour AH19 Reykjanes Peninsula

Excellent tour guide (named John I think). He was very knowledgeable. The small church was the best part. Thanks
